Data Protection Statement
Glasgow Caledonian University Students’ Association (GCUSA) is committed to meeting its obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998. GCUSA will strive to observe the law in all collection and processing of subject data (staff and students) and will meet any subject access request in compliance with the law. GCUSA will only use data in ways relevant to carrying out its legitimate purposes and functions as a charity in a way that is not prejudicial to the interests of individuals. GCUSA will take due care in the collection and storage of any sensitive data. GCUSA staff will do their utmost to keep all data accurate, timely and secure.
GCUSA keeps certain information about its employees, students and other users. For example to allow it to monitor performance and achievements, ensure health and safety, pay staff, recruitment, organise activities and to contact members. GCUSA also keeps certain information for reporting purposes for Glasgow Caledonian University and affiliated organisations (eg SUS, BUCS, AMSU, NUS, GCVS, OSCR).
When GCUSA obtains personal data the length of time it needs to be kept will be outlined on the form. Personal data will be treated as confidential information and destroyed within appropriate timeframes and destroyed appropriately.
All GCUSA staff must be aware of the requirements of the Data Protection Act when they collect or handle data about an individual. GCUSA staff must not disclose data except where there is subject consent, or legal requirement. No data will be sent onto third parties without the written consent of the subject.
The Data Protection Act gives you right of access to the personal data that GCUSA holds about you. You can exercise this right by making a request in writing to the General Manager, Glasgow Caledonian University Students’ Association, 70 Cowcaddens Road, Glasgow, G4 0BA or email: studentsassociation@gcal.ac.uk. The Association requires payment of the £10 administrative charge before responding to the request.
